All communication will be provided to the student through his/her/their @shockers.wichita.edu email.
- The professor will be the first University professional involved in the Academic Integrity
process.
- ALLEGED INCIDENT. The professor will begin the process when an alleged incident of
Academic Integrity misconduct has occurred.
- The professor will collect information regarding the alleged incident, contact the
student pertaining to the alleged incident, and determine if grade related sanctions
are necessary.
- NO ACTION. If the professor decides to not impose a grade related sanction, he/she/they will not be required to file a report with Student Conduct & Community Standards (also known as SCCS). However, reporting of alleged misconduct is encouraged in order to track habitual behavior.
- PURSUE FORMAL AI CHARGE
- SANCTION ASSIGNED. If the professor decides to impose a grade related sanction, he/she/they is required to file a report with Student Conduct and Community Standards.
- The professor will collect information regarding the alleged incident, contact the
student pertaining to the alleged incident, and determine if grade related sanctions
are necessary.
- ACADEMIC INTEGRITY REPORT IS FILED. The professor will end their role in the administrative
side of the Academic Integrity process by filing an Academic Integrity Report.
- The professor submitting the Academic Integrity Incident Report is known as the Complainant. The Complainant will submit relevant information and documentation to SCCS via: www.wichita.edu/reportit.
- ALLEGED INCIDENT. The professor will begin the process when an alleged incident of
Academic Integrity misconduct has occurred.
- SCCS staff are the second entity of professionals involved in the Academic Integrity
process.
- WRITTEN NOTICE TO STUDENT. The first step in SCCSs role is to provide Written Notice.
- A staff member, also known as the Conduct Administrator, will be assigned to the student,
also known as the Respondent.
- The Conduct Administrator will give the Respondent written notice. Written notice will detail the alleged violation(s), the date/time/location of the Informational Meeting, notification of the Respondents rights and responsibilities, and the Conduct Administrators contact information.
- A staff member, also known as the Conduct Administrator, will be assigned to the student,
also known as the Respondent.
- INFORMATIONAL MEETING. The second step in SCCSs role is the Informational Meeting.
- The Conduct Administrator will review the rights and responsibilities of the Respondent, explain the alleged violation(s), case contents, and discuss the resolution options. There are two resolution options: Informal and Formal.
- The resolution options will be discussed in the Informational Meeting; however, the Resolution may not take place on the same day.
- WRITTEN NOTICE TO STUDENT. The first step in SCCSs role is to provide Written Notice.
- The third step in SCCSs role is either the Informal Resolution or Formal resolution.
- INFORMAL RESOLUTION. An Informal Resolution is applicable for students that accept
responsibility and the Complainants sanctions.
- The Informal Resolution is a formal meeting with the Conduct Administrator to discuss alternative behaviors and remaining steps in the Academic Integrity process.
- Sanctions imposed by the professor would stand.
- FORMAL RESOLUTION. The Formal Resolution is selected based on three decisions:
- The student accepts responsibility, but does not accept the professors sanctions;
- The student does not accept responsibility or the Complainants sanctions;
- SCCS selects the option for the student when multiple or egregious violations have
occurred.
- The Formal Resolution allows the student to have an Academic Integrity Hearing with
the Academic Integrity Committee.
- The Committee is comprised of either 3 or five members (3 faculty and 2 students or 2 faculty and 1 student).
- The Complainant and Respondent may provide witnesses and both parties will have the opportunity to question witnesses.
- Both the Complainant and Respondent will have the opportunity to present information.
- The Hearing Committee will determine whether the alleged violations occurred or not and may assign or reduce sanctions corresponding to their finding.
- Academic Integrity Hearings are audio recorded for appeal purposes.
- The Formal Resolution allows the student to have an Academic Integrity Hearing with
the Academic Integrity Committee.
- INFORMAL RESOLUTION. An Informal Resolution is applicable for students that accept
responsibility and the Complainants sanctions.
- The fourth step in SCCSs role is issuing the outcome.
- OUTCOME ISSUED. The Conduct Administrator will notify the Complainant and Respondent whether they have been found in violation or not in violation. The Administrator will also notify the Complainant and Respondent of the sanction(s) outcome.
- The Associate Vice President of Student Affairs and the dean of the college for the
alleged violation are the final entities of professionals involved in the Academic
Integrity Process.
- APPEAL. The Associate Vice President of Student Affairs and the dean of the college
for the alleged violation will determine if an appeal is warranted and give a finding
on whether an outcome can be overturned.
- A Respondent is allowed one appeal per case. Appeals can be heard based on new evidence that was not available prior to an outcome being issued or if the process was done incorrectly.
- APPEAL. The Associate Vice President of Student Affairs and the dean of the college
for the alleged violation will determine if an appeal is warranted and give a finding
on whether an outcome can be overturned.
All instances of Academic Integrity are kept within a students educational record and managed by Student Conduct and Community Standards. A students educational record is separate from the students academic transcript.
