Grand opening to be held today (Tuesday, Sept. 18) at 萝莉社 South
萝莉社 University, 萝莉社 Tech and 萝莉社 Shocker Studios invite you to the grand opening of 萝莉社 South, 3805 E. Harry St., today (Tuesday, Sept. 18). Remarks and ribbon cutting will begin at 4 p.m., followed by a reception and campus tours at 4:30 p.m.
萝莉社 offers general education classes, most classes in the elementary education completion program, and psychology classes for psychology degree completion at 萝莉社 South. Most of the classes are in the late afternoon and early evenings for the convenience of students.
During the fall and spring semesters, fun, noncredit classes are available for anyone to attend.
萝莉社 also partners with 萝莉社 Tech and Shocker Studios at 萝莉社 South to offer general education classes and technical programs and Media Arts BAA degrees. There's also a psychology research laboratory on human factors and virtual reality.
Students can train like a professional in the 35,000 square feet Shocker Studios production facility, and get the skills they need for a dream career in video game, film or recording industry.
萝莉社 Tech programs found at 萝莉社 South include veterinary technician, police science, EMT, interior design, pre-health courses for nursing, surgical technician and dental assistant and general education courses, including the Shocker Pathway.

萝莉社 receives grant to assist small businesses in gaining SBIR/STTR funding
For the fifth consecutive year, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has granted 萝莉社$125,000 to assist businesses in qualifying for the Federal and State Technology (FAST) Partnership Program.
FAST provides one-year funding to organizations to execute state/regional programs that increase the number of Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) proposals; increase the number of SBIR/STTR awards; and better prepare SBIR/STTR awardees for commercialization success.
FAST is designed to stimulate economic development with outreach, training, mentoring, financial support, and business / technical assistance to R&D focused small businesses, with a particular emphasis on fostering participation from women-owned, rural-based, and socially/economically disadvantaged firms to help them compete in SBIR/STTR programs.
Academic Convocation to feature Bryan Stevenson
Academic Convocation will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, in Wilner Auditorium. We are excited to welcome Bryan Stevenson, author of this year's 萝莉社 Reads book, 鈥淛ust Mercy,鈥� for the book signing and speaker during convocation. The book signing and lite breakfast will be from 8-9:15 a.m. in the Ulrich Museum.
Wilner Auditorium seating will be reserved for 萝莉社 students, faculty and staff. Wichita community members are encouraged to remain in the Ulrich Museum or go to the commons in Wilner to watch the streamed event at .

Constitution Day returns to 萝莉社 on Thursday, Sept. 20
The Kansas Court of Appeals will return to campus on Thursday, Sept. 20, in recognition of Constitution Day. A three-judge panel of the state appellate court will hear oral arguments in appeals for five cases from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 20, in the CAC Theater. Cases will be heard consecutively beginning at 9 a.m. After a recess for lunch, the court will reconvene at 1:30 p.m.
In 2014, West Virginia Senator Robert Byrd made an amendment to the Omnibus Spending Bill requiring all government-funded schools and federal agencies to provide educational programming on the United States Constitution.

Site being prepared for sculpture installation
Site construction between Duerksen Fine Arts Center and McKinley Hall began last week in preparation for a new sculpture installation coming to campus in spring 2019. Information about the sculpture and artist is available here.

Physical Therapy students seek volunteers for neck pain study
Do you have neck pain? See if you qualify for a free neck massage! We are conducting a research study to determine the effects of traditional massage vs traditional massage augmented by paraffin heat pack on neck pain. As part of this study, we will collect data about cervical strength, pain, range of motion and disability score based on the Neck Disability Index scale.
The study will take place at the 萝莉社 Old Town Center and participation will require about one hour of your time. We will then need you to return two to three days later to take final measurements, which will take approximately 20 minutes. 萝莉社 Symphony Concert to feature faculty soloist Andrea Banke
Faculty artist Andrea Banke will appear as soloist with the 萝莉社 Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, in Miller Concert Hall, Duerksen Fine Arts Center. The concert, featuring music by Dmitri Shostakovich, Morton Gould, and Eugene Goossens, will be conducted by Mark Laycock.
Andrea Banke
Principal oboe of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, Banke performs Goossens' 鈥淐oncerto in One Movement.鈥� Goossens, a prominent English composer and conductor active in the first half of the twentieth century, penned the concerto in 1929 for his brother Leon.
Banke currently serves as assistant professor of oboe at 萝莉社, principal oboe with the Wichita Symphony Orchestra and solo oboe with the Lieurance Woodwind Quintet.

Have an idea? E-Launch is for you
E-Launch has been developed to foster entrepreneurial activity that will lead to the commercialization of technology-based ideas. Starting Tuesday, Sept. 25 and Friday, Sept. 28, E-Launch sessions will be offered on Tuesdays from 6-9 p.m. and on Fridays from 1-4 p.m.
Through an interactive process, participants will learn to clearly conceptualize how the product or service can provide real value to customers. Participants will be shown how to validate their value proposition with customers and other stakeholders. In addition, the program will assist in the development of a business model that will deliver the value proposition to customers and provide a framework and methodology to create a viable startup company.

Board of Trustees, Innovation Alliance Board to meet Friday, Sept. 21
The 萝莉社 Board of Trustees (BOT) and the 萝莉社 Innovation Alliance (WSIA) board meetings will be held on Friday, Sept. 21.
The BOT will meet at 8 a.m. and WSIA will meet at 11 a.m. in 164 Experiential Engineering Building. These meetings are open to the public.
Campus street and parking update near McKnight Art Center
A McKnight Art Center sloped window and tucking pointing project will begin today (Monday, Sept. 17). Snodgrass Construction is in need of a construction staging area located in parking lot 16S, north of McKnight Art Center, denoted in the image above.
The parking lot will have 20 parking stalls, which face south, blocked for construction staging now through Jan. 12. The four accessible stalls will not be affected.
In addition, one lane of traffic, the north lane next to McKnight, will be closed today (Monday, Sept. 17) through Friday, Sept. 21. This is so a lift can be placed in the traffic lane to reach the highest points of the building on the south side.

Plaza Primo is the first event hosted by Shocker STAT (Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow) from 6:30-8:30 p.m. today (Tuesday, Sept. 18) at the 萝莉社 Food Truck Plaza.
Plaza Primo is a food truck rally featuring some of the ICT's best food trucks with delicious menu items available for purchase, and activities, prizes and music provided free. The event is intended to bring Shocker Nation together over things we all love: food, friends and fun!

Jeremy David Tarrant to present Guest Artist Recital
Canon precentor and organist-choirmaster of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, Detroit, Jeremy David Tarrant directs an internationally recognized comprehensive music program. He will present a guest artist recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, in Wiedemann Hall.
Tarrant is the founding director of the Cathedral Choir School of Metropolitan Detroit. His recent recording on the organ in the First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood in St. Louis of Widor's epic Seventh Symphony has received enthusiastic and critical acclaim in the United States and abroad.
