What degree did you earn?
Bachelor of Fine Arts in graphic design.
What led you to ?
was a local university with competitive pricing and a strong graphic design program.
How are you feeling leading up to graduation?
Currently, I am feeling a mix of excited and nervous.
What has been your most helpful learning experience while a student at ?
My most helpful learning experience as a student at would be my job as a design intern with Strategic Communications and as the Student Communications Assistant for the Office of Adult Learning. Working on campus has helped me grow my network and get some experience in my field.
What was been your biggest challenge as a student, and how did you overcome it?
Due to a miscommunication in class requirements, I had to wait an extra year to apply to my program, so I’m a fifth-year senior. I took my in-between year to knock out a chunk of my general education credits. It definitely took patience and perseverance, but I am glad for the opportunity to connect with my current classmates. I am also grateful to be graduating at a time that looks a little more hopeful than last year.
What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation I will continue to look for a graphic design-related job in the Midwest. Ideally, I would like to stay in Wichita.
How has the COVID-19 pandemic affected your time at or your post-graduation plans?
As with anyone, the COVID-19 pandemic has greatly affected my life. However, one way the pandemic has impacted me positively is that I now have experience working remotely. Even if I can’t find an in-person job in the area, I can leverage that experience to expand my search for employment.
What advice would you give other students?
I don’t know how much longer we’ll be living the Zoom life, but I would advise other students to turn their cameras on in class. It might seem like a hassle or even an inconvenience, but it can help you pay better attention and get more out of class. Plus, your professors will really appreciate getting to see your face.
