Message from the Office of Financial Aid
Did you know the amount of financial aid a student may receive is determined according
to eligible credit hours of enrollment on the Financial Aid Recalculation Date (last
day for 100 percent tuition refund for a 16-week course)? On Monday, Feb. 4, federal
grant funds and current enrollment levels will be locked. Students must refer to the
Financial Aid Terms and Conditions document for additional details.
Late fees will be assessed on Tuesday, Feb. 5, for all accounts without a valid payment arrangement; this will also result in a financial hold on the student鈥檚 account.

Student committee fee applications are now open!
Any student who wishes to represent any of the demographics listed below during the fast approaching Student Fees deliberation process can now apply. SGA recently passed an amendment to the Fees process that expands the amount of representative members within the Student Fees Review Committee, and they seek to fill all 13 blocks of representation within the next week. The deadline for applying is Friday, Feb. 1. For more information or to apply to join this committee, go to .
Student Fees affect the success of all things 萝莉社. Passionate students are needed to help Student Government balance a fair and fruitful budget for students and the University alike to continue growth in the right direction. Deliberations and hearings will begin in the second week of February.

Resources are available to learn more about budgets and compensation
University officials have received media inquiries lately regarding administrators鈥� compensation. There are several good sources available to everyone regarding budget and compensation.
- -- This page is maintained by the Office of Strategic Communications and provides the university budget and other public information, records and data.
- -- This page is maintained by the Office of the General Counsel and allows the public to view all Kansas Open Records Act requests to 萝莉社, as well as their responses.
-- KanView is maintained by the Kansas Department of Administration. It鈥檚 an online solution that brings better visibility, openness and accountability to Kansas state government. KanView contains data related to government spending and income, allowing Kansas taxpayers an inside look at government financial activity.
Youth mentoring opportunity for three credit hours
The INSPYRE research lab (directed by Samantha Gregus) is currently recruiting undergraduate mentors for a three-hour course in the spring 2019 semester. Mentors eat lunch with an elementary school student twice each week. In return, mentors receive three hours of course credit and many great experiences.
Mentors are required to: undergo background checks, have reliable transportation to and from the elementary school, and should have availability from noon to 2 p.m. at least twice a week.
We do not meet regularly like a traditional class (time mentoring takes the place of class time). We do, however, have a course syllabus, class readings, and paper assignments. Mentors will receive training at the beginning of the course and a grade at the end based on attendance and completion of assignments. Health Professions to host Shock the Future Town Hall meeting
Sandra Bibb, dean of the College of Health Professions, will host a College of Health Professions Town Hall meeting to answer questions and spark discussion on the Shock the Future Referendum, a student-led campaign that identifies a list of academic and student success infrastructure needs.
You鈥檙e invited to attend the Town Hall at noon today (Monday, Jan. 28) in 200 Ahlberg, Hall. This is your opportunity to share your thoughts with your dean, and to be a part of 萝莉社鈥檚 growth.

LinkedIn: Craft a stellar profile and build a valuable network
For many, LinkedIn is the social media equivalent of an awkward networking event. However, 98 percent of recruiters and 85 percent of hiring managers use LinkedIn to find candidates.
Come to this workshop, co-sponsored by the Career Development Center, from 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, in 266 RSC, where you'll learn how to craft a stellar profile, build a valuable network and leverage both to your best advantage. First-Year Programs to host Syllabus Party
First-Year Programs in the Office of Student Success invites students to the Syllabus Party from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. tomorrow (Tuesday, Jan. 29) in 142 RSC, to pick up free planner supplies and organize class projects, papers and exams.
Peer Coaches will be available to give time management strategies and organizational tips. Students can bring their own planners or phone calendars if that is what they prefer to use. Graduate student seeking participants for coping with depression research project
A 萝莉社 graduate student working on her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology is seeking volunteers to participate in a project that compares two approaches for coping with depression. This study will be conducted within the Department of Psychology (Jabara Hall) under the supervision of Robert Zettle, and will require your involvement for 18- 20 weeks. The study involves eight weekly treatment sessions.
The first two weeks involve one hour sessions and the remaining six sessions will be half-hour sessions. Participants who complete all sessions will be contacted one week and two months later for follow-up measures.
Participants must be at least 18 and will be screened in three stages to determine their eligibility.
If you are interested, complete an (30 minutes) to assess your initial eligibility. The next two stages will be conducted in person for 20 and 50 minutes respectively.

Doctoral students need participants for their research projects
Two 萝莉社 graduate students (Doctor of Audiology and Doctor of Philosophy) need participants for their research projects. They are studying an existing and a newly developed clinical technique for evaluating function of the middle ear.
Participants must be between the ages of 18 and 35, have normal hearing, have not had an ear infection in the past three months, nor had a cold or flu in the past two weeks. Participants will receive a free comprehensive hearing evaluation and ear examination prior to testing. The testing will take about an hour.

Research study seeks participants for coping with fear of spiders
Participants are being sought for a coping with Fear of Spiders Study: Exploring the effectiveness of protocols for spider fearful individuals.
Seeking participants living in Wichita or the greater Wichita area, who are age 18 and older, to take part in a study examining the effectiveness of protocols for spider fearful individuals.
If you are interested in participating, please respond to the screening survey listed in the tabs below (tinyurl.com/experiencesandbeliefs). Individuals taking part in the screening survey will have the option of being entered in to a drawing for a $40 dollar Amazon gift card or earn 2 SONA credits for 萝莉社 courses.
Qualifying individuals will be contacted for the in-person portion of the study. Those opting to participate will be given the opportunity to enter a drawing for one $80 dollar Amazon gift card or earn 4 SONA credits.

萝莉社Opera Theater will present its 2nd annual 鈥淪cenes and Songs鈥� at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, and Friday, Feb. 8, in Wiedemann Hall.
This year鈥檚 theme follows 鈥渢he journey of life鈥� with music by Bernstein, Copland, Mozart, Gounod, Dvo艡谩k, and 萝莉社 student composer Aaron Fink.

Library tips and tools for Grad Students
University Libraries (UL) can make your life easier, especially when it comes to doing library research. Come to this workshop from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, or 5-6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, in 217 Ablah Library, to learn about library resources that help you avoid article charges, the EndNote software program provided by the UL that reduces the effort required to format research papers and citations, technology equipment such as iPads and portable projectors that you can borrow, subject librarians who are available for individual and group consultations, and much more.
Besides brief demonstrations, there will be time for questions and answers. The University Libraries invites all graduate students, especially new ones, to attend. Registration appreciated, but not required.

Kappa Kappa Gamma to hold two events this week
Kappa Kappa Gamma has two COB (continuous open bidding) events coming up for women who are interested in joining Greek life. It is free, and it鈥檚 just a way for women to come meet girls in the chapter.
The first event, Ties that Last a Lifetime, is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30. During this event we will make tie blankets to donate to the Wichita Children鈥檚 Home.
The second event, My Kappa Valentine, is from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31. We will make Valentine鈥檚 Day gifts for the other chapters in the Greek community.
