FAQs about the Fairmount College graduation competencies

If the question you have isn't answered below, contact your academic advisor for more details.

Why do we have these competency requirements?

We want students to have a clearer understanding of what skills they are developing by taking specific classes as a liberal arts and sciences major. Academic advisors will assist students with understanding the competencies and selecting courses that will help them meet the requirements.

Who must follow this new plan?

The new plan only applies to liberal arts and sciences students who enter under the 2024-2025 catalog and later.

How many more classes do I have to take?

You should be able to satisfy competency requirements by using classes you are already taking to satisfy major and general education requirements.

Do transfer students also need to meet competency requirements?

Yes. However, transfer students entering 蹤獲扦 in the fall 2024 semester may come in with equivalent courses that satisfy competency requirements. Working closely with an academic advisor will minimize additional coursework.

What is the most important thing I can do?

Meet with your academic advisor regularly. You can reach them at 316-978-4757.

This sounds like a great idea. I started at 蹤獲扦 in fall 2023. Can I switch to this plan?

Yes, but meet with an academic advisor to determine if it benefits you to switch.
