Scholarship Opportunities
Full or part time undergraduate students working on a major, minor, or BGS in Womens Studies, as well as graduate students with a Womens Studies concentration in the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS) program, a background in Global Learning, or an interest in the Plaza of Heroines are eligible to apply for scholarships sponsored by the Womens Studies Department.
An online application form for the academic year can be found at www.wichita.edu/las/scholarships. All scholarship applications come from the LAS Deans office to the Department for Womens Studies, so be sure to note LAS Deadlines. Priority deadlines for incoming freshmen and current students are November 1st and February 1st respectively. Recipients of any awards will be notified early in the spring semester. Additional information on each award available can be found below.
Plaza of Heroines Endowed Fund
Undergraduates:
The scholarship(s) will be awarded annually and/or on a semester basis
Student(s) receiving the award may be required to participate in research or classroom
activities with Womens Studies faculty as a condition of receipt
Scholarship criteria will be based on demonstrated academic excellence and demonstrated
interest in Womens Studies as a scholarly pursuit
Award(s) will be made without regard to financial need
Award duration and amounts will be determined collectively by the Center for Womens
Studies faculty
Graduates:
The fellowship(s) will be awarded annually and/or on a semester basis
Awards may include assistantships as well as merit awards with no assistantship
attached
Fellowship criteria will be based on demonstrated academic excellence and demonstrated
interest in Womens Studies as a scholarly pursuit
Award(s) will be made without regard to financial need.
The fellowship(s) will not be automatically renewed
Award duration and amounts will be determined collectively by the Center for Womens
Studies faculty

Erla Hutchinson Alexander Scholarship
Preference will be given for two(2) scholarships, which will be awarded annually to an undersgrauate student enrolled full time in Women's, Ethnic and Intersectional Studies Program.
Award(s) will be made without regard to financial need.
The scholarship will be renewed as long as the recipient meets the required cirteria.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Endowed Scholarship
Preference shall be given to African-American students.
Receipient must be a liberal arts major
Consideration will be given to college potential and leadership qualities
Recipient must have a 2.0 GPA or greater
Award will be made with regard to financial need
The scholarship may be renewed as long as the student meets the scholarship criteria
Shelley Skillman Minority Studies
Consideration will be given to individuals who are active in community or civic activities and who demonstrate an interest in minority studies
Consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential, and leadership qualities
Award(s) will be made with regard to financial need
The scholarship(s) may be renewed but students must re-apply annually
Tammy Daley Walston & Gary Waltson Endowed Scholarship for Women's Studies
Preference shall be given to undersgraduate student(s) enrolled either full or part-time studying Women's Studies
Recipients must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0
Award(s) will be made with regard to financial need
The scholarship is renewable if the recipient maintains a minimum GPA of 3.0
