Shocker Sing

The Choral Department of 萝莉社is excited to host Shocker Sing on March 31, 2025. Choirs of all ages and levels are welcome! During Shocker Sing, each ensemble has the opportunity to perform for other singers in a non-competitive format.

Ensembles will sing in 萝莉社鈥檚 beautiful Wiedemann Hall and be professionally recorded. In addition, choirs will be provided written and verbal feedback from our guest clinician and 萝莉社 faculty members. Each choir will receive direct instruction via an onstage clinic.

Dr. Mariana Farah

Mariana Farah is the Director of Choral Studies at the Mead Witter School of Music where she conducts the UW-Madison Concert Choir, Advanced Treble Choir, and Choral Union. She also teaches courses in graduate choral conducting and oversees all aspects of our comprehensive choral program. Prior to her appointment at UW-Madison, Dr. Farah served as the Associate Director of Choral Activities at the University of Kansas.

Cost

The cost for the event is $200 per ensemble or $300 for two ensembles. If paying by check, please make it payable to 萝莉社School of Music. A check may be mailed to:

Rules

The intention is for this to be simple and non-threatening. You are free to present whatever music you choose. Each choir will have a total of 30 minutes. This includes both performance time and your clinic.

Please be prepared to supply three original copies of each of your scores, with the measures numbered, for our panel. These will, of course, be returned to you.

Each clinician will fill out a 'rubric' for each ensemble. Numbers and ratings will not be used, nor will they be posted. This is simply a form to help guide our listening and provide you with feedback. In addition, recorded comments, a performance recording, an onstage clinic, and an offstage private clinic will be provided.

We respectfully ask that food and drink be kept out of Wiedemann Hall.

Attire

While it is typical that ensembles wear their performance attire for adjudication, this is not required. Changing facilities/dressing room space will be limited. It is suggested that each ensemble wear what they intend to perform in. This is completely at the conductor鈥檚 discretion.

Hosts

Each participating school will have one to two 萝莉社 students serving as their hosts. These students will meet you when your buses arrive, escort you through campus, help you stay on schedule, and assist you in any way needed. Expect to hear from 萝莉社 prior to the event to establish your ETA so our hosts will be prepared to meet you.
