community.
to apply. The deadline is Friday, April 30.
What does it mean to be a leader in Honors? We have leaders in our labs, classroom, student organizations, and governance. Being a leader in Honors means working to discover your strengths and the strengths of others. Leadership sometimes means standing at the front of the room, but it sometimes means asking a thoughtful question or inviting someone else to speak. It means listening, observing, figuring out what are the greatest needs, and working independently or collaboratively to meet those needs.
What does the student council do? The Council activities change every year, but the mission is the same: The Honors Student Council aims to develop a strong sense of community and common identity among Honors students by providing opportunities and serving as a refuge to all students of the Cohen Honors College. The Council uses innovative approaches to identify and address the challenges and needs of all Honors students and serves as the voice of students through communication with the staff, faculty, and Dean of the Cohen Honors College.
But what have they done lately? Recent initiatives led by the Council include: changing Honors admissions messaging and application requirements, hosting Honors Hours and extended lounge hours, awarding fee scholarships, and recommending a security camera in the lounge area.
For information about current Council members, click here. The Student Council typically meets every Thursday 5 - 6 p.m. by Zoom and meets at least twice a year with the Faculty Council. To bring an idea or concern to the current Student Council, email honorsassistant@wichita.edu.
