MajorHealth Management

The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Health Management provides four specialized programs: Aging Studies, Health Administration, Health Science, and Public Health. This degree prepares students for careers in entry- and mid-level management positions within hospitals, medical clinics, long-term care facilities, and public health organizations. It also establishes a strong foundation for further education in graduate programs focused on health administration, public health, or aging studies.

Inside the Program

Student group works to improve public health during the pandemic

Public health science students collaborated with campus organizations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Senior capstone students worked with Student Health Services during the fall semester on mitigation strategies. In the spring, students created a plan for distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine to students and faculty, and  developed .

Students celebrate National Public Health Week annually by volunteering in the community and displaying health educational materials around campus.

Curriculum

Students complete a core curriculum in health management, which provides  strong foundation in health services delivery, population health assessment and leadership. You can choose from one of four concentrations:

  • Aging Studies: Prepares students for entry-level roles in senior centers, senior living communities, nonprofit or for-profit aging organizations, or further education in aging studies. 
  • Health Administration: Prepares students for entry-level positions in nonprofit and for-profit clinical healthcare organizations, or advanced studies in health administration. 
  • Health Science: Prepares students for various professional healthcare roles, offering support in clinical, laboratory, and sales capacities across government, academic, and private sectors. 
  • Public Health: Prepares students for entry-level positions in state and local health departments, health-related nonprofit and for-profit organizations, or further studies in public health. 

A departmental honors track is also available for this major.
