Requirements
  • Current RN to BSN student enrolled in at least 6 credit hours per semester.
  • Good standing with the University and School of Nursing.
  • Many scholarships have unique requirements, such as essays or letters of recommendation. More information can be found on the Essays and Other Required Documents for CHP Scholarships Department Scholarship Instructions website.

Application Instructions

All scholarships will be applied for through the ScholarshipUniverse portal. ScholarshipUniverse is 蹤獲扦s scholarship-matching tool for admitted and current 蹤獲扦 students. 

 

 

Application Deadline

Application deadlines will need to be submitted by the following dates:

  • Fall Awards: February 1
  • Spring Awards: October 1

It is strongly recommended to submit your application no less than two weeks prior to the scholarship application deadline so that chosen references have sufficient time to complete the process. References that are not completed by the deadline will result in an incomplete application and subsequent disqualification from the pool of applicants.

CHP Scholarships

The College of Health Professions awards over $300,000 each year in scholarships to CHP majors. These awards are made possible by our generous donors, which allow us to provide over 200 students with financial assistance as they pursue their degrees at 蹤獲扦.

Shirley E Hazen RN-BSN Endowed Nursing Scholarship

The School of Nursing is proud to offer the Shirley E. Hazen Endowed Scholarship to our RN to BSN students. Shirleys professional career as a registered nurse spanned over 50 years.  She earned a diploma in nursing from St. Francis Hospital and School of Nursing in 1970. Shirley went on to practice 24 years in the perioperative setting as a staff nurse, holding certification in perioperative nursing. Shirley advanced to head nurse in the operating room and then Education Manager in Surgery and Perioperative Services.

In 1981, Shirley returned to higher education and earned a Baccalaureate degree in nursing. In 1983 she earned a Masters degree in nursing, with an emphasis in administration. In 1994 Shirley began her teaching career at 蹤獲扦 University. She taught 26 years in the School of Nursing at 蹤獲扦 University, promoting from Clinical Educator to Senior Educator and taught in the prelicensure nursing program and the RN to BSN Program. In 2018, Shirley was the first faculty in the School of Nursing to receive the Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nursing Faculty. Shirley was the Coordinator for Nursing Online Education until she retired in 2020.

Shirley was an advocate for higher education and lifelong learning. Consequently, this endowed scholarship was established to provide financial support for registered nurses returning to school to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Charlotte Foster and Brian Foster Nursing Scholarship

Charlotte Foster was a retired secretary in the Wichita Public Schools who died in 2018 at age 83. Her son, Brian Foster worked in food service and loved to garden and read. He died in August 2020 at age 59. This scholarship will serve as tribute to the Foster's appreciation for those serving in health care and the importance of nursing education at 蹤獲扦. This is awarded annually in the fall.

Blue Cross/Blue Shield

As the largest health insurer in the state and a major force in the economy of Kansas, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas continues to lead the way in health care delivery in the state. The company takes pride in its history of service to the state and looks forward to continuing the tradition of Kansans serving Kansans. The contribution for this scholarship was received from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Foundation. This is awarded annually in the spring, pending fund availability.

Zona Richardson

In 1998, the Zona Richardson Endowed Scholarship was established for nursing education. This scholarship is designed for nursing students and practicing nurses enrolled at 蹤獲扦 University, enabling them to acquire degree education, as well keep current and well-trained in the latest practices and technologies. Through the Kansas Health Foundation, Zona Richardson's generous gift has made possible the continuing pursuit of education and excellence in community health care. This is awarded annually in the fall.
