About Me

Major: Accounting

Born in Mexico City, Diana spent her early childhood there until her family migrated to the United States when she was seven years old. The family initially settled in California, where Diana, her mother, and her brother lived for four years. In 2004, following her mother's remarriage, the family relocated to Wichita, Kansas,. Diana considers this city her true home. "Wichita has provided me with so many opportunities," she said. "It's where I grew up, made lifelong friends, and now, it's where I am building my future."

At the age of 30, Diana is a proud mother of twin boys and is pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. Her academic journey is a testament to her determination and commitment to building a better future for herself and her family. "I have always valued education and the opportunities it brings," Diana shared. "Pursuing a degree in accounting is a step towards securing a stable and rewarding career."

Diana's decision to major in accounting is driven by a passion for the field and a desire to create a strong foundation for her family's future. Balancing motherhood and academics is no easy task, but Diana approaches it with unwavering dedication and optimism. "My twin boys are my biggest motivation," she said. "Everything I do, I do for them."

In addition to her academic and career pursuits, Diana loves spending quality time with her boys. "I love to do activities with my boys, like going on walks," she said. "We cherish those moments together." Diana also enjoys maintaining an active lifestyle by going to the gym and participating in group activities. These pursuits help her stay fit and provide a sense of community and camaraderie.

What motivated you to return to as an adult learner?

After having my twin boys I decided to come back to school to better our future as a family and provide a better lifestyle for them.

What are some of your goals?

My short-term goals is to finish each semester as they come. One semester at a time! As for long-term once I graduate, I hope to find a good job in my field.

Have you faced any significant challenges in your educational journey? How did you overcome them?

Yes, my first two semesters of coming back to school were very challenging as everything is now ran through the computer. It was hard for me to reach out for help when needed and failed some of my classes because I was too proud to ask for help. It was not until I heard about OAL that I learned about different programs and tutoring options that I was able to finally get to a comfortable place where I could reach out to people and find information and get the help that I needed.

How do you contribute to your school and/or community in a meaningful way?

I believe this amazing opportunity to become a Peer Ambassador will be my way to contribute because I know how hard it is to reach out or find the information you are looking for and how hard it is to adjust to returning to school after being away for a long time.
