Student Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN)

What is a Master Promissory Note?

If you borrow Direct Subsidized Loans, Direct Unsubsidized Loans, or a Graduate PLUS Loan, you are required to complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) before receiving your first loans.  It is a legal document in which you promise to repay the loan(s) and any accrued interest and fees to the lender or loan holder.  There is one MPN for Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loans and a different MPN for Direct PLUS Loans.  

What You Need to Complete an MPN

  • Your FSA ID
  • Personal information such as your permanent and mailing addresses, telephone number, and email address.
  • Your school name (蹤獲扦- school code 001950)
  • Reference information for two people with different U.S. addresses who have known you for at least 3 years
  • Employer's information (PLUS Loans only)

How to Complete an MPN

Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan

  • Log into .
  • Select "Loans and Grants" tab at the top of the screen and click on "Master Promissory Note (MPN)."
    • If you are an Undergraduate student - click on the Start button to the right of the Im an Undergraduate Student 
    • If you are a Graduate student  - click on the Start button to the right of Im a Graduate Student 
  • Once selected, you will need to then click on the "Start" button on the next page next to the MPN for Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loans. 

PLUS Loan for Graduate Students

  • Log into .
  • Select "Loans and Grants" tab at the top of the screen and click on "Master Promissory Note (MPN)."
  • Click on the "Select MPN Type" button next to the Im a Graduate Student section.
  • Click on the "Start" button next to the MPN for Direct PLUS Loans.  

PLUS Loan for Parents

  • Have your parent log into .
  • Select "Loans and Grants" tab at the top of the screen and click on "Master Promissory Note (MPN)."
  • Click on the "Start" button to the right of the Im a Parent of an Undergraduate Student section.

Once completed, allow 1-2 business days for your MPN to be received by the Office of Financial Aid.


How to Complete Entrance Counseling:

First-time student loan borrowers are also required to complete counseling before receiving their first loans. This counseling educates you (the loan borrower) about your responsibilities and obligations for the loan(s), as well as how to avoid delinquency and default.
  • Login to .
  • On your Dashboard page, look at the "Quick Links" box at the right and click on "Entrance Counseling."
  • Once completed, allow 1-2 business days for your counseling to be received at Wichita State.
