From a Small Town to the City: Savana鈥檚 Transfer Story

What initially attracted you to 萝莉社?

How welcoming the admissions staff was and how easy my community college credits would transfer. The 萝莉社 website had all the information I needed and Neal Hoelting, my transfer rep, answered all my questions when I was thinking about transferring to 萝莉社. He made the process easy, and I am thankful for that. I also loved the fact that 萝莉社 is only 1.5 hours from home, so that meant I would still be close.

Did you feel supported through the transfer process? Why or why not?

Yes, I did feel supported. I felt support from my family and friends, and my community college too.  And from 萝莉社.

Did you have any reservations about moving from a small town to a metro area?

I was back and forth on it. I wanted to move but the idea of moving to the city in a pandemic wasn鈥檛 exactly an easy choice. I decided to go through with it, and it was a great decision. I was able to learn and grow on my own without living at home and I believe it has benefited me greatly to this day.

Were there any adjustments you had to make taking classes at a larger institution?

When I first started classes here at 萝莉社, I was supposed to be all in-person but since it was in 2020, they all ended up being online. Taking classes online at a larger institution was an adjustment. Once in-person classes came back, I didn鈥檛 find anything crazy about them. Starting college at a community college definitely made the class sizes at 萝莉社 manageable, which was a blessing.

What was your favorite part of studying at 萝莉社?

My major was Business Administration and I enjoyed that I got to take classes out of almost all the business disciplines. Taking a class out of each business major gives you an insight into all of them, and I think that鈥檚 pretty cool.

What advice do you have for students currently at a community college with plans of continuing their education at another school?

My advice would be to look at all your options and make sure your credits will transfer. Once you know that you want to continue at a larger institution, go for it. If you can manage community college, then a university will be a piece of cake. If it makes you nervous, you鈥檙e doing it right.
