Overview

Carl Hummell is an instructor for the 蹤獲扦Homeland Security degree program. Carl helped coordinate and launch 蹤獲扦s Homeland Security program in the Fall of 2018, after retiring from a 20-year career in federal law enforcement.

Carl spent the first 8 years of his career as a Special Agent with the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) within the Department of Justice. During that time Carl investigated and enforced federal immigration laws, conducted worksite enforcement operations, and coordinated human smuggling interdiction with state and local law enforcement. After 9/11, and with the creation of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Carl became a Special Agent with the newly minted Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) within the department, where he conducted and lead criminal investigations involving, human smuggling and human trafficking, narcotics and firearms trafficking, bulk cash smuggling, internet crimes, document and benefit fraud, and transnational gangs. Carl was also assigned as a task force agent with the Wichita FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force.

Prior to his federal law enforcement career, Carl served 8 years in the United States Marine Corps, including service in Saudi Arabia during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm (1st Gulf War). Carl served as a non-commissioned officer in the 3rd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, field Combat Operations Center during the conflict. After returning to the United States Carl was selected to serve as a member of the Inspector/Instructor Staff with the 4th Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion 4th Marine Air Wing, at Pasadena, CA. After leaving the service Carl obtained a Bachelor of Science in Education at Missouri State University.

Carl currently resides in Wichita, KS with his wife Wendy (also a retired law enforcement officer), and their two awesome daughters.
