Congratulations to those who received grants in November! Thanks to all of their talents and hard work, as of November 30, 2022, 蹤獲扦 researchers under Academic Affairs have submitted proposals budgeting a total of $41,065,018, received $19,294,213 in awards, and generated $1,762,833 in indirect cost recovery thus far for FY2023. However, the last number of IDC recovery will likely change after the new F&A rates have been finalized for an effective date of July 1, 2022, following negotiations with the federal government, as described below in an Announcement.
This months newsletter provides an opportunity to get to know a little about Linda Steinacher in her role as the IRB/IACUC Administrator for the Office of Research in Academic Affairs.
We wish you a restful and joyous Holiday season, and much success in your research efforts over the next month.

Purpose: The overarching goal of this solicitation is to democratize access to NSFs advanced cyberinfrastructure (CI) ecosystem and ensure fair and equitable access to resources, services, and expertise by strengthening how Cyberinfrastructure Professionals (CIP) function in this ecosystem. It aims to achieve this by (1) deepening the integration of CIPs into the research enterprise, and (2) fostering innovative and scalable education, training, and development of instructional materials, to address emerging needs and unresolved bottlenecks in CIP workforce development. Specifically, this solicitation seeks to nurture, grow and recognize the national CIP workforce that is essential for creating, utilizing and supporting advanced CI to enable and potentially transform fundamental science and engineering (S&E) research and education and contribute to the Nation's overall economic competitiveness and security.
Amount: A SCIPE award is limited to five years in duration. The yearly budget for a project may support up to 4 full-time equivalent (FTEs) CI professionals. Projects may also budget for additional expenses involved in the project. This solicitation does not specify a limit. However, such expenses should be clearly justified, and it is expected that the support for the CIP professional trainees would be the major component of the budget.

Purpose: The Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) Program serves to increase access to multi-user scientific and engineering instrumentation for research and research training in our Nation's institutions of higher education and not-for-profit scientific/engineering research organizations. An MRI award supports the acquisition of a multi-user research instrument that is commercially available through direct purchase from a vendor, or for the personnel costs and equipment that are required for the development of an instrument with new capabilities, thereby advancing instrumentation capabilities and enhancing expertise for instrument design and fabrication at academic institutions. MRI instruments are, in general, too costly and/or not appropriate for support through other NSF programs.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS
Office of Research EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT Linda Steinacher
Linda is a graduate of Friends University and began her career working for American Family Insurance as a Casualty Claim Adjuster for ten years. She then stayed home with her three children for the next ten years. Linda returned to the labor force by working at a roofing company and her church.
Linda joined the 蹤獲扦 Office of Research in 2015 as the IRB/IACUC Assistant working part-time. She moved to full-time in 2018 when she became the IRB/IACUC Administrator. Not many people are familiar with the IRB and IACUC (including Linda prior to coming to 蹤獲扦). For those of you not familiar, IRB is an acronym that stands for Institutional Review Board and it assists researchers with the study of human subjects. IACUC is an acronym for Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and it assists researchers with their study of vertebrate animals. Outside of work, Linda enjoys spending time with her family, serving her local church community and traveling. Read more about the Office of Research staff
Changes to 蹤獲扦 Indirect Cost Recovery Rates
Negotiations with the federal government on 蹤獲扦s new F&A (Facilities and Administration) rates, effective 1 July 2022, are almost complete. We anticipate the following significant changes to the Academic Affairs rates: On Campus Organized Research rate decreasing from the current 48% to a new rate of 40%, the On Campus Other Sponsored Activities rate decreasing from the current 30% to a new rate of 19% and the Off Campus Other Sponsored Activities rate decreasing from the current 26% to a new rate of 17%. We will announce the final rates as soon as they are negotiated. The new rates will impact your proposal and award budgets, as well as the distribution and availability of F&A funds used to support research activities on campus.
National Science Foundation Makes Changes to Major Research Instrumentation Program (MRI)

National Institutes of Health (NIH) Request for Information (RFI): Innovative approaches to prevent mental health problems and promote mental wellness in populations that experience health disparities
As part of the NIH ADVANCE: Advancing Prevention Research for Health Equity initiative, this RFI seeks input from a variety of interested parties, including but not limited to healthcare providers/organizations, complementary and integrative health clinical institutions, mental health clinics, mental health advocacy organizations, schools/educational institutions, community- and faith-based organizations, state or local governmental organizations, and researchers, on practical and innovative interventions or programs that contribute to the primary or secondary prevention of mental health problems and promotion of mental health wellness in populations that experience health disparities. Input from community-based service providers and other community-based organizations about promising or successful approaches in their communities is particularly encouraged. Of additional particular interest are interventions that move beyond the provision of mental health treatment to encompass strategies that address social determinants of health that operate as risk or protective factors for psychological distress and the development of mental health problems. Also of interest are strategies to implement, sustain, and disseminate such interventions. Responses due by March 1, 2023.
Department of Energy Issues Notice of Intent for Onsite Energy Technical Assistance Partnership Funding
The U.S. Department of Energys (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) announced its intent to issue a funding opportunity announcement that will establish a regional network of Technical Assistance Partnerships (TAPs) to help industrial facilities and other large energy users increase the adoption of onsite energy technologies. REMINDER - Link Your ORCID ID with Your CITI Account
CITI has made it possible for researchers to connect their ORCID IDs to their CITI Program profiles. An ORCID ID is a permanent numeric identifier that individuals own and control, which provides a way to distinguish themselves uniquely from other researchers and scholars. ORCID IDs are often used in systems and platforms from grant applications to manuscript submissions, and are increasingly required by funders, publishers, data repositories, and other research workflows.
REMINDER - National Institutes of Health (NIH) Forms-H
NIH posted an article in their external newsletter about Forms-H, which is required for application submissions due on or after January 25, 2023.
REMINDER - National Science Foundation (NSF) Proposal and Award Policies and Procedures Guide (PAPPG) 2023
A revised version of the NSF Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide (PAPPG) (NSF 23-1) has been issued. The new PAPPG will be effective for proposals submitted or due on or after January 30, 2023.
