Media Resources Center/University Relations Guidelines

蹤獲扦 TV logoPurpose
蹤獲扦s YouTube.edu site is designed to enhance the mission of 蹤獲扦 as Kansas only major research university in a metropolitan area.

Objectives
1. Become the official 蹤獲扦 presence on YouTube.
2. Provide a setting for sharing appropriate video content with 蹤獲扦 supporters, students, faculty, staff and alumni.
3. Provide a setting for sharing videos that may be longer than ten minutes in length.
4. Adhere to all related policies and laws, including YouTubes guidelines on educational content.
5. Control content according to the policies of 蹤獲扦.
6. Fully support the mission and brand direction of 蹤獲扦.

Criteria for evaluation
Video content placed on 蹤獲扦s YouTube.edu site must meet the following criteria:
1. It supports the mission and brand direction of 蹤獲扦 and does not cast 蹤獲扦 in a negative or controversial light.
2. It fits YouTubes policy of providing content that is educational, not promotional, in nature; it does not overtly promote an event, program, product, department, or the university in general.
3. It does not violate prevailing laws governing copyrighted and trademarked material.
4. It is of interest to the broad 蹤獲扦 community, including students, prospective students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and other supporters.
5. Whereas video of any quality can be uploaded by the individual to the YouTube site, 蹤獲扦s EDU site is reserved for videos that meet professional standards. For example:

a. Copyright releases for speakers, panelists, background music, etc. must accompany the submission of the video.
b. Presentations that include PowerPoint text or other accompanying visuals must be easily readable, preferably with the supporting screens edited into the final video from a digital sourceas opposed to one camera panning from speaker to screen.
c. Light on the subject(s) should be white-balanced and even.
d. The production should avoid excessive panning, tilting, zooming, and unsteady, hand-held shots.
e. Names and titles should be provided for principle speakers.
f. Audio should be up front, preferably through the use of handheld or lapel microphones. Speech should be easily understood, with little noise or distraction.

6. Other than postings of 蹤獲扦s Commencement ceremonies, the videos on this site should not exceed one hour in length. For todays audiences, shorter is always better.
7. The material may be left on the site for long periods, or it can be date-stamped.
8. Ownership of materials will be in accordance with 蹤獲扦's Policies and Procedures on Intellectual Property.

Evaluation and posting procedures
The Media Resources Center manages the content development of the 蹤獲扦 YouTube.edu website with assistance from University Relations.

There will be a labor/equipment fee charged to recognize the costs associated with ingesting, encoding and uploading the video content. If requested, a DVD copy of the uploaded program will be provided to the client along with the original recording. The MRC will not provide storage for materials once they are uploaded to the YouTube server.

Uploading will be completed on a first-come/first-served basis, depending upon the workload of MRCs Video Services unit.

The person or unit submitting a video for consideration will be asked to write a short description (a maximum of four sentences) and to suggest keywords that will make the topic most accessible in searches.

Inquiries and submissions should be directed to the executive director of the MRC. The MRC will conduct a preliminary evaluation and post video material to the 蹤獲扦 YouTube.edu website.

In cases where the MRC feels broader evaluation is warranted, or in cases of appeal, the Executive Director of the MRC, may consult with 蹤獲扦s Web Content Manager, and the Associate Vice President of University Relations.

Any further appeal can be made to the Universitys Associate Provost and Chief Information Officer.
