Guru Tegh Bahadur's Martyrdom Day is also observed as Shaheed Diwas every year on November 24.

On this day in April 1675, Guru Tegh Bahadur was publicly executed on the orders of Aurangzeb because he had opposed religious persecution.

The day marks the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur and pays honour and tribute to Guru Tegh Bahadur's sacrifice while guarding the religious sentiments of people.  He was the ninth Sikh Guru.

Guru Tegh Bahadur sacrificed his life to protect religion and human values, ideals, and principles. He stood out from an early age for his qualities of sacrifice and valour. He was executed for supporting the religious freedom of Kashmiri Pandits on the orders of Mughal ruler Aurangzeb, according to PIB.

On Wednesday, President Droupadi Murmu paid homage to Guru Teg Bahadur on the eve of his martyrdom day. She said his sacrifice will be remembered for all times to come.

The President said, "I pay my homage to Guru Tegh Bahadur ji on the occasion of his Martyrdom Day. Guru Tegh Bahadur ji sacrificed his life for the sake of Dharma. It is rightly said about him that  'Sir Diya Par Saar Na Diya'. His sacrifice will be remembered for all times to come."
