Manipur school bus accident:Eight children killed in road accident in Noney

In a tragic incident, several students are feared dead after a school bus met with an accident in Noney district of Manipur on Wednesday.

Eight persons, mostly school children, were killed and 33 others sustained injuries when a bus met with an accident near Khoupum, Tamenglong district in Manipur on December 21.

A bus carrying students of Thambalnu Higher Secondary School, Imphal slid down a gorge and was completely overturned.

The mishap took place after the school bus reportedly collided with another bus at the Old Cachar Road near Longsai Tubung village. The students were going to Khoupum for a study tour, as per initial reports.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh expressed grief over the incident and said that SDRF and medical teams and MLAs have rushed to the spot to coordinate the rescue operation.

"Deeply saddened to hear about the accident of a bus carrying school children at the Old Cachar Road today. SDRF, Medical team and MLAs have rushed to the site to coordinate the rescue operation.

Praying for the safety of everyone in the bus," he said in his tweet, sharing the video of the tragedy.

As per reports, several students sustained injuries in the accident. They have been rushed a nearby hospital.
