Popular media player software and streaming media server VLC Media Player has been banned in India.

The platform was being used by China-backed hacking group Cicada to prepare for cyber attacks.

Only people who already have this software in their device can use it.

At present, neither the company nor the Government of India has said anything on this.

Therefore neither the company nor the Indian government has officially announced a ban on the media platform.

A few months ago, security experts discovered that Cicada was using the VLC media player to deploy a dangerous malware loader.

Some people on Twitter are tweeting about its ban. A Twitter user tweeted a screenshot of the VLC website

In this screenshot it is written that the website has been banned under the IT X 2000 order of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
