A shocking surveillance footage shared online shows a woman being viciously attacked by a fox outside her own house.

The time-lapsed footage, shared originally on Facebook, shows the woman getting ambushed by the wild animal in her yard while she uses her phone.

The fox lunged at her leg as she stood checking her phone on her front walk.

In a desperate move, the woman attempts to kick and throw the animal away until her neighbour runs up to the yard with a large stick.

At that moment, the fox ran away as the woman limped back into her home.

Ed Russo, a cousin of the woman, posted the video online with an update.

He wrote: "A cousin of mine was attacked by a rabid fox in Ithaca, NY. She’s OK. But geez this video is crazy!"

The clip also showed the woman's injuries on her foot, calves and scratches.
