Tattoo ink may contain uncountable chemicals harmful to human health, says new study

Getting a tattoo is a symbol of self-expression and people have been decorating their bodies for decades for several different reasons.

In today's day and age, tattoos are not only trendy but also considered a walking form of art.

But little is known about the components used in the ink that goes inside our bodies.

In the study presented this week at an American Chemical Society conference,

Dr. John Swierk said little is known about the chemical composition of inks, which are mostly unregulated in the U.S.

During their analysis of inks, Swierk and his team discovered the presence of ingredients that were not listed on the label.

In one case, ethanol was not listed, but the chemical analysis showed it was present in the ink.
