A mother of six and social media star has urged parents to trust their instincts after a hospital sent her newborn son home - despite him having a life-threatening virus.

Brittani Boren Leach, 31, from the US state of Texas, took her five-week-old baby Cam to Emergency after she noticed his chest was retracting as he struggled to breathe.

For three hours, Leach sat waiting anxiously - listening to her little son and noticing crackling noises as he breathed.

She said her concerns about newborn Cam were “triggering” - because her son Crew died in his sleep on Christmas Day 2019, at just three months old.

Finally, the pair was seen by a doctor, who diagnosed Cam with Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

RSV can present as relatively mild cold symptoms in older, healthy children - but for babies 12 months and under the virus can cause serious complications.

But after only five minutes of speaking with the doctor, Cam and Leach were sent home.
