Tool Training Workshops
Want to learn some of the most common tools used in the Project Innovaiton Hub? If so, please take advantage of our tool training workshops. All students are welcome!
How to enroll in a tool training workshop
Step 1: Review the list of regularly scheduled workshops below.
Step 2: Follow the RSVP link provided for the workshop that you would like to attend.
Step 3: Complete the qualtrics survey and select the date you will be attending. You will receive an email confirmation with the workshop details. You will submit a TDX ticket for workshops that are by appointment only.
Step 4: Add the workshop to your calendar and we will see you in the lab.
Weekly Workshops
Description: This workshop covers basic FDM 3D printer operations. Topics will include how to operate the slicing programs used by most printers, and how to operate the printers in the lab.
Location: John Bardo Center 105 (mezzanine level)
Duration: 45 - 60 minutes
Supplies Needed: Laptop with MakerBot Print and Cura Downloaded. If you do not have a laptop, we will have a limited number of laptops available.

Description: In this workshop we will be going over the basics of using the laser machines in the Project Innovation Hub. Topics include basic cutting and engraving. All materials will be provided.

Description: This workshop will introduce participants to the basic operations of the Project Innovation Hub woodshop. This will include use of the band saw, miter saw, scroll saw, and drill press, as well as various hand tools.

Description: In this workshop, we will use Fusion 360 to learn the basic tools and strategies to sketch from a 2D perspective. We will also learn to edit 3D objects on a single plane.
Prior to this workshop you will need to with Autodesk and download Fusion 360. Make sure that you use your "@shockers.wichita.edu" email address. If you do not use your school email, you will not have access to the free software license.

Description: In this workshop we will discover the basic tools and functions of creating 3D objects within Fusion 360. The goal of the workshop will be to learn how to use multiple sketch planes to create 3D models.

Description: In this workshop we will cover basic techniques for successful through-hole soldering by exploring educational soldering kits that will help build basic prototyping skills. Soldering kits and tools are provided.

Description: In this workshop we will be going over the basic techniques for successful surface mount soldering. The workshop will cover an introduction to hot air and drag soldering methods. We will do this by exploring example soldering kits. Soldering kits and all tools are provided.

Workshops - By Appointment Only
Description: In this workshop we will cover the basic tools of the vector graphics editor, Inkscape. Once you have completed this workshop, you will have an understanding of how to create simple two-dimensional designs used in machine processes such as laser engraving/cutting, CNC routing, and CNC plasma cutting.
Duration: 45 - 60 minutes
Prerequisites: None.
Supplies Needed: Please make sure to bring your laptop with Inkscape downloaded. If you do not have a laptop, we will have a limited number of laptops available.

Description: In this workshop, participants will learn about SLA (Resin) 3D Printers. This includes slicer operation, machine operation, and required cleaning and post processing. Note: We do not allow unresrticted access to SLA or SLS printers.

Prerequisites: 3D Printing Basics - Level 1.

Description: In this workshop we will cover the basic operations of our PEEL 3 3D Scanner. This will include set-up, marking, 3D scanning, and post-processing of scanned files. Note: We do not allow unrestricted access to 3D scanning equipment.

Description: Do you enjoy woodworking and have a project that you are just not sure how to start? This workshop will cover the basics of CNC routing. The goal of this course is to teach the user how to: Successfully project a profile from a CAD design and convert to .gcode using the V-Carve software. We will then use the X-Carve to learn how to safely operate a CNC router.
Duration: 45 - 60 minutes
Prerequisites: None.
Supplies Needed: Please bring your laptop if you are able.

Description: In this workshop we will cover the basic functions of the WAZER waterjet cutter, how to import CAD files into the layout software, and how to create the post files for machine operation (.gcode). We will also learn how to safely operate the waterjet cutter. Note: We do not allow unrestricted access to waterjet systems.

Description: In this workshop we will learn how to import, clean, and setup vectors in the layout program, ENROUTE. Using engraving tools to set up G-Code. Importing and setting up of the Plasmacutting machine and running a successful program. Note: We do not allow unrestricted access to CNC plasma cutting systems.

Description: In this Workshop, students will learn how to create a simple circuit on a breadboard and analyze the inputs and outputs to create the desired effect. We will cover an introduction to the use of standard electronics test and measurement equipment. This is meant for someone that has never used a breadboard before.

Description: Git is the most popular version control system on the web. In this course, Ray Villalobos shows you the fundamental commands that you need to work with most Git projects. He explains how to use checkpoints called commits, which let you leave messages documenting what happened at each checkpoint, as well as how to create branches that are alternate versions of your project that you can work on without changing the original.
