Saturday, November 16th, 2024; 8:30-6pm

The School of Performing Arts hosts all in-person program acceptance processes on one day to allow future students to audition/interview for multiple programs of interest.

In-person auditions/interviews are strongly encouraged. Virtual & other options are also available.

Current SPA students and the SPA Director will be available throughout the day to answer questions. 

BA in Performing Arts 鈥� Concentrations in Dance and Theatre 
BFA in Performing Arts - Concentrations in Dance, Design & Technical Theatre, Musical Theatre, and Theatre Performance/Acting 

Prior to auditioning/interviewing 

  1. Fill out SPA program acceptance/scholarship form (includes bio, headshot, resume, and essay) 
  2. Apply to 萝莉社 University 
  3. Complete the FAFSA

Design & Technical Theatre (BFA)

What to bring: Portfolio/samples of show work

Location: Wilner Auditorium (Commons & Rm 203/204)

Schedule:

9:00-9:30 AM - Program overview

9:45 AM - 12:00 PM - Portfolio Reviews/Interviews - 15 min time slots throughout the day as needed (see sign-up link above)

Musical Theatre (BFA)

What to bring: 2 contrasting 32-bar musical theatre songs & a 1-minute monologue

Location: Heskett Center Dance Studios, 144A

Schedule:

8:30-9:00 AM - Check-in

9:00-9:30 AM - Program overview

9:30-10:30 - Dance Call for all auditioning

10:45 AM - 4:00 PM - Auditions throughout the day as needed (see sign-up link above)

Theatre (BA)

What to bring: Come prepared to discuss your areas of interest in theatre studies.

Location: Wilner Auditorium (Stage & Rm 111)

9:00-9:30 AM - Program overview

10:00 AM - 12:00 PM - Interviews - 10 minute slots throughout the day as needed (see sign-up link above)

Dance (BA,BFA)

What to bring: prepare a 1-minute solo

Location: Heskett Center Dance Studios, 144B

Schedule:

1:00-1:30 PM - Program overview

1:30 - 2:30 PM - Contemporary Technique Audition class for all auditioning

3:00 - 4:00 PM - Solos/Interviews - 10-minute slots throughout the day as needed (see sign-up link above)

Theatre Performance/Acting (BFA)

What to bring: 2 contrasting monologues (no longer than 3 minutes total)

Location: Wilner Auditorium (Stage)

1:00-1:30 PM - Program overview

1:30 - 3:00 PM - Auditions - 15-minute slots throughout the day as needed (see sign-up link above)

Design & Technical Theatre (BFA)

What to prepare: Submit a portfolio/samples of show work - pictures of sets, lights, costumes, wigs, props, stage management paperwork, etc.

Musical Theatre (BFA)

What to prepare: Audition video

Contact/email: Amy Baker Schwiethale at amy.baker@wichita.edu. Email Professor Baker Schwiethale requesting more information on how to attend the alternate in-person audition on 2-1-25, or instructions for a virtual option.

February 1, 2025 Schedule:

Theatre (BA)

What to prepare: Be prepared to discuss your areas of interest in theatre studies.

Dance (BA,BFA)

What to prepare: 2-3 minutes of any movement that travels across the floor & incorporates jumps, turns & floor work. 1-2 minute solo.

Theatre Performance/Acting (BFA)

What to prepare: Self-tape of 2 contrasting monologues (no longer than 3 minutes total)

    • Self tape can be done with a phone
    • Use a neutral background if possible (white, blue, or gray wall is best) & eliminate cluttered backgrounds
    • Record horizontally, not vertically
    • Frame yourself in a medium shot - from waist height to slightly above your head
    • State your full name & the pieces you are performing (title of play & playwright) at the beginning of your video
