CSD Outstanding Alumni Award

The CSD Outstanding Alumni Award is given annually to our alumni who have shown outstanding achievement in the professions of speech-language pathology and audiology. Nomination letters should detail the nominee's qualifications for the award and include their curriculum vita. Additional letters of support are optional, but appreciated. Submit nominations to csd@wichita.edu by October 1.

2008: Patrick J. Carney, PhD

Patrick J. Carney, PhD, CCC-SLPDr. Carney earned his bachelors and masters degrees in the Department of Logopedics from 蹤獲扦 and is a professor emeritus in the Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology at the University of Tennessee. He served as president of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) in 1991 and has authored numerous research articles and grants in the areas of cleft palate, articulation disorders, and typical speech sound production. Dr. Carney is an acknowledged authority in the areas of professional ethics, professional practice issues, and leadership in the professions of speech-language pathology and audiology.

His presentation entitled Professional Issues in Communication Sciences and Disorders: Looking Back-Looking Forward was held on April 17, 2008.

Abstract
This presentation will describe the past, present, and future of the relationship between the professions of speech-language pathology and audiology in the shared discipline of human communication sciences and disorders. Participants will learn that a synergistic bond between the autonomous professions will empower audiologists and speech-language pathologists to advocate for the needs of persons with communication and related disorders, advance communication science, and promote effective human communication.
