Tutorial and Training Component
As Assistant Director, Ms. Wright coordinates the tutorial and training component.
This component focuses on outcome-based individualized tutoring. The priority is to
assist students in attaining the grades needed to successfully complete required courses
in their degree program to meet graduation requirements.
Advising Component
Advising is another component of the Assistant Director. Ms. Wright advises students
across multiple disciplines and majors. Ms. Wright has advised students while in previous
positions as Director of Admissions at National American University, Manager of Instructional
Development at Heritage College and Success Coach at Southwestern College of Professional
Studies.
When arriving at 蹤獲扦, Ms. Wright served as an Academic Success Advisor in
the College of Engineering for five years and advisor to the National Society of Black
Engineers (NSBE), 蹤獲扦 collegiate chapter.
Ms. Wright is no stranger to tutorial assistance or advising. As a student, Ms. Wright
says she was hesitant to ask for assistance due to having too much pride. That changed
quickly when she received the results of her mid-term exam in Chemistry. At that point,
she knew she needed a tutor and an advisor to reach academic success. Her goal was
to graduate. While she didnt earn any academic honors during her undergraduate journey,
she managed to turn things around in her graduate program at Newman University, graduating
Summa Cum Laude with a masters degree in Education and Organizational Leadership,
and a Leadership Coach certification.
Scholarship Component
As Assistant Director, Ms. Wright also coordinates the scholarship component. TRIO
Student Support Services is honored to administer Endowed Scholarships through the
in-kind donations of private donors. SSS Endowed Scholarships are specifically designed
for TRIO Student Support Services students.
Giving back to community is very important to Ms. Wright. She serves on the board
of directors for several organizations who focus on feeding the hungry, healthcare,
education and job opportunities to improve the economic status of marginalized communities.
Ms. Wrights greatest joy is her loving and supportive family. She and her husband
John H. Wright, Jr. are the parents of 3 adult sons and 7 grandchildren, all of whom
keep them busy. When she takes a moment for herself, Ms. Wright enjoys exercising,
singing, painting, writing, reading, traveling, and serving through her sorority Alpha
Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
