Alternative Spring Break

Alternative Spring Break (ASB) trips expose 蹤獲扦 students to complex social and cultural issues through community visits, experiential learning, direct service, group discussions, common readings, discussions and reflection activities. This year the trip will take place in Boulder Creek, California over Spring Break from March 10-17, 2024.

The ASB 2024 will be spent volunteering at Camp Campbell, Outdoor Science School. The California Outdoor Science Association is sponsored by the California Department of Education. 蹤獲扦 volunteers will serve as camp counselors through the week and assist with the Outdoor Schools programming. Volunteers will receive a day long training on the first day of the trip, Monday. The camp takes place from Tuesday-Friday. Activities during the week may include but are not limited to attending field studies with students in the redwood forest, conducting river studies and daily nature hikes traveling around to various communities surrounding the camp. One evening campers will participate in a field study which include a night walk, emphasizing the nocturnal animal life, nighttime sensory awareness, and astronomy. On Saturday 蹤獲扦 volunteers will have a tour day to spend touring San Francisco, will spend the night in the city and depart the following Sunday to fly back to Wichita.

Where to start?

  1. Attend one of our information sessions. Information sessions will provide students with details and logistics about the trip. Information sessions will be held on the following dates. If you are unable to attend one of the information session, please reach out Loren Belew at Loren.Belew@wichita.edu to schedule another time to meet. Information sessions will be held on the following dates: Tuesday, September 12, 12:00-1:00 p.m. in Room 216 of the RSC. Tuesday, September 26, 12:00-1:00 p.m. in Room 216 of the RSC.
