Aug. 3, 2020 鈥� If necessity is the mother of invention, it may also be the source of new patents: The story of how Dr. Ali Eslami became the holder of US Patent 10,689,898 鈥� his first 鈥� begins with a local company asking for an invention to save it money.

July 29, 2020 -- With health and safety prioritized, 萝莉社 University鈥檚 food, retail and common spaces will adjust hours, layout and cleaning schedules as students return for the fall semester.

July 27, 2020 - 萝莉社student Kristen Bruce works as a software tester for Flint Hills Group, founded by Shocker alum Dave Cunningham. Over the past year, Bruce played an important role in Flint Hills Group鈥檚 work with McAlister, a fuel distributor and wholesaler in Wellington. McAlister needed to replace its software used to monitor fuel flow for billing. Bruce helped Flint Hills Group beat coming issues and move to a new system, while some of McAlister鈥檚 competition encountered problems.

July 23, 2020 鈥� The Advanced Robotics Manufacturing (ARM) Institute, which receives funding from the U.S. Department of Defense, recently awarded 萝莉社 $250,000 to assist in creating a workforce development database focused on compiling a map of educational programs and resources that provide skills required for today鈥檚 advanced robotics and manufacturing careers.

July 22, 2020 - The 萝莉社College of Engineering sponsors GoBabyGo, an interdisciplinary program that modifies toy cars for use by children with disabilities. The COVID-19 pandemic interrupted the semester and several students returned over the past month to help finish and deliver the six cars.

July 16, 2020 - 萝莉社 University鈥� is making plans to establish a 鈥疌LIA-certified 鈥疢olecular Diagnostic Laboratory, with the goal of bringing to bring large-scale COVID-19 testing to the region by the end of 2020. Large-scale testing is critical to opening the Wichita region and helping people return to school and work in a safe environment. With 鈥痶he number of COVID cases on the rise, the need for adequate, reliable, and affordable testing is more crucial than ever.

July 16, 2020 鈥� The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded more than $1.1 million to Dr. Vinod Namboodiri, professor of electrical engineering and computer science at 萝莉社 University, and his team to create a community-wide wayfinding system for people with disabilities.

July 15, 2020 -- During each month for the next 12 months, we will release 11 Shocker pride points for a total of 125 by next June. 萝莉社 is the greatest metropolitan university in the United States, and these points prove it.

July 14, 2020 - Greg Hand, professor of epidemiology, medicine and physical activity and sports sciences at West Virginia University, has been named dean of the College of Health Professions at 萝莉社 University, effective Aug. 9, 2020.聽He served as the founding dean of West Virginia University鈥檚 School of Public Health, and previous to that role, he was the associate dean for Research, Practice and Information Technology at the University of South Carolina鈥檚 School of Public Health.

July 13, 2020 - Three 萝莉社alumni wrote, produced and organized "God Save the Wings," a documentary about the glory days of the Wichita Wings professional indoor soccer club from its founding in 1979 into the early 1980s. 鈥淕od Save the Wings鈥� debuted on February 22 at the Orpheum Theatre and it went so well that organizers planned to show it again on April 10. Then the COVID-19 pandemic changed their schedule and their hopes of entering it in film festivals around the world are largely on hold until the fall.

July 8, 2020 -- Navatek LLC, a contractor focused on technology research for U.S. government agencies such as the Department of Defense and NASA, is opening an office on the 萝莉社campus in fall 2020.

July 8, 2020 鈥� 萝莉社鈥檚 National Institute for Aviation Research's Digital Twin program uses insights gained through the digital assembly of aging aircraft to provide valuable data to those who might work to maintain and repair similar aircraft in the future.

July 7, 2020 -- Nearly 70 years after John and Colleen Wooley first met as students at the University of Wichita, they have established a legacy that will touch the lives of 萝莉社students for generations to come. The couple鈥檚 $2.2 million estate gift will provide more than $100,000 in scholarships each year for students with financial need.

July 6, 2020 -- 萝莉社is committed to delivering accessible content to its students regardless of ability. One way 萝莉社 provides content to its visually impaired students is through the recent purchase of the Braillo 300 S2 Braille Printer.

July 2, 2020 -- Partnered with the U.S. Army鈥檚 Combat Capabilities Development Command (CCDC) and Aviation & Missile Center, 萝莉社 University鈥檚 FirePoint Innovation Center is building collaborations with the U.S. Department of Defense.
